I Want My Bike to Blow Bubbles!

So, Noah and I got our Schwinn Loops and we're very happy with them. They're fun to ride, easy to fold and unfold, and a lot sturdier than you'd expect from a folding bike. But the best thing about them is how ridiculously cute they are.

People are always commenting on them. When we bike down the street, children gather and point and whisper. Occasionally a brave one will yell out, "Those bikes are AWESOME!" And they are.

Now I just need to install a pedal-powered bubble machine:

Then all the kids in the neighborhood will make me their queen! And I will rule them with an iron fist!

Note: I would advise against ordering the Loop from Outlet Trail. It took almost six weeks to get them delivered despite a promise of 24-48 hours.

Enormous Eddie Murphy Head: Why?

What the hell is going on here?

Does anyone else find this giant Eddie Murphy head to be a little creepy? And why can't I stop staring into Eddie Murphy's giant empty eyes? And why is it traveling? Where the hell is it going? Is it on its way to meet a giant Eddie Murphy body? Once the head has its body, is giant Eddie Murphy going to crush us all?

Apparently, this is all part of a marketing campaign for his new movie. The giant head will be touring the US, allowing visitors to enter it through the ear. I would really like to see a picture of a line of people entering Eddie Murphy's head through his ear. The campaign's kinda like a cross between a crazy roadside attraction and Being John Malkovich. On wheels. Too bad the movie probably won't be anywhere near as interesting or strange as the publicity stunt.

Spanish Classes and Slushies

So, you may have noticed that I'm no longer including Spanish captions under my pictures. I didn't really like how it was working out. There wasn't enough Spanish writing for it to be useful practice for me or for a Spanish speaker to really get much from it. I would have had to include a lot more writing in Spanish and I didn't want to change things that much here. I hope to do a Spanish language web project in the future, but it won't be here.

For now, I'm getting plenty of Spanish practice-- 1.5 hours per night, 4 nights a week at a private school. Classes just started this week. Working full time and going to class at night is exhausting. How do I cope? The same way I cope with everything:

Mora (Andean blackberries) + sugar + rum + ice + lime= yum

Except now I finally have a good blender and it, combined with Goya's heretofore mentioned amazing frozen fruit pulps, has revolutionized my drinking. I drink everything in slush form now. I plan on turning all of my favorite cocktails into slushies. Mojitos, moscow mules, white russians-- all will be made into slush! Everything tastes better after it's been slushed.

Cuddly Tiger Backpack for Men

This gem is from Frankie Morello's 2009 spring/summer collection:

So is that like a backpack or what? Man, I am totally getting Noah one for his next birthday. And I want one of a llama.

Totally Snowglobular

These morbid and surreal snowglobes are super neat. Here's a nice giant spider attacking some humans:

This one's my favorite:

I love the mystery of it. It's just so intriguing. I mean, did they shove their own heads into the trees or is some sinister outside source responsible?

These are so appealing because the artists have taken an art form considered innocuous and cheesy and injected a little darkness into it. The medium itself has become synonymous with cheap and frivolous because of its historic use, but is the snowglobe innately tacky? Can a snowglobe have substance? Would Guernica be any less powerful if it were painted on one of those 1980s carnival prize mirrors? (It also reminds me of the Velvet Fuhrer.)
